OUR BUSINESS: We are a leading specialist in the
sourcing of antique country cottage furniture with over 30 years
experience and have been working from the internet for over 15 years.
All our stock is unique and specially selected to suit the decor of an
English country cottage.
Over the years, and by working with many leading interior designers, we
have found that there is always strong interest in unique pieces of
small furniture or decorative items of superior quality. When
these are set in the similarly unique surroundings of a well preserved
country residence then they can be shown to their best advantage.
One of the beauties of quality older furniture is its sheer
practicality. These items were generally meant to be used and used
often - which means that they were extremely well made by modern
standards. The materials used were of very high quality and the
workmanship was often exemplary. Following restoration by our
highly skilled professional restorers all our stock is ready for many
years more service
The owners of Antiques4Cottages are also owners of a beautiful 17thC
house which we have restored with great care over the years and also
furnished with items of the period and cottage style. This has given us first hand
experience of the type and size of small antique furniture that fit best
in this type of property.
COTTAGE ANTIQUES: Our specialisation is in finding fine old country
furniture and decorative antiques in smaller sizes. For example,
small antique tables and small antique chairs. In addition, small
decorative antiques will enhance the general appearance of any country
cottage. Cottage furniture comes in a variety of styles and woods.
Some of these items have a rustic appeal, others certainly represent the
very best of English furniture and cabinet making. Other items
have characteristic Arts & Crafts features from the later part of the
19thC. Some items that are much older dating from the late 18thC
or early 19thC. Our archive of
cottage antiques is also available.
Oak furniture is remains popular as always, but our small antique
furniture also comes in walnut and various shades of mahogany
and occasionally pine or pitch pine.
Chairs can be of oak, ash, elm or beech or combinations thereof.
Some will be stamped by its original maker - a clear
indication of its quality and often collectability. Over the years
we have sold antique cottage furniture by Gillows, Shoolbred, Liberty,
Maple & Co, Heal & Son, Holland and Sons, Goodyers and other well know
London based cabinet makers and retailers of the 19thC and early 20thC
